The Shooting Shack is now about 95% complete. Over the weekend I finished up most of the work and them moved most of my gear inside. Today my solar power supply arrived so now I can run power from a gasoline generator or a solar generator. This is all good news because guns are stacked up waiting to be tested.
I have two security systems in place. The first one is a secret like most security systems ought to be, and it’s working fine so far. The second tier security system is on order and when it arrives, I’ll give you all the details. Some reloading tools are also on order. These tools will let me work up loads while I am shooting. I’ll provide detailed walkthrough video discussing the building and accessories when everything is complete.
While I was at SHOT Show I visited the Real Avid booth and put together an order of the gear I needed inside the Shooting Shack. Not only do I want to be able to shoot and do some load development, I also wanted to be able to clean guns, mount optics, install triggers and other accessories, and conduct maintenance.
You can see several the Real Avid work station tools in the video but the one I thought was the most ingenious is the Smart Assist Quick-Connect System 3-Pack with Smart Dock. You can mount this cool tool on your workbench or on the Real Avid Master Gun Workstation. Real Avid also offers individual pedestal mounts for the light, magnifying glass or phone holder. It should be obvious how you would use the light and magnifying glass, and the phone holder allows you to video your work or watch an installation video while you’re working. I liked this system so much I ordered another for the workbench in my office. If you have a gun or workbench I’d seriously suggest you give this system a look.
The Master Gun Workstation is essentially a long gun vice to hold your rifle or shotgun while you are cleaning it or working on it. It is quick to adjust, features a leveling knob for scope mounting, and has a tray for tool storage. I also got a Real Avid Master Gun Vice for the workbench. This vice will rotate 360°, has a torque lock and a leveling knob for scope mounting too. Other Real Avid tools include the Smart-Torque Driver Master Set, and an Armorer’s Master Hammer.
The building, all the Real Avid gear—to include their new and unique Ratchet Rests—will be detailed in an upcoming feature article for Gun Digest later this year. In the meantime, for me its time to get back to shooting regularly, and this gives you a peak into where the gun testing I do will be conducted.
