If you’ve followed my writing at all over the last several years, you know I frequently use a variety of products from Spartan Precision Equipment. I use their gear only because I think it some of the lightest and best shooting supports available.
I think the most unique thing about their gear is that it’s all tailored to work with their very well designed magnetic attachment stud. For their supports to work on your rifle you must either install an adapter at the location of the front sling swivel stud or you install one of their flush-fit gunsmith adapters. They also offer adapters that will interface with a Picatinny rail, M-Lok, Key Mod, UIT, or an ARCA rail. Most of my rifles have the classic sling swivel adapter but a few, like my daughters less than five-pound OutKast Arms custom Kimber, have the gunsmith installed adapter.
A little bit of Googling will help you learn a lot about all their gear, but the item I want to introduce you to is their Mr G Clamp. It’s named after Rob Gearing who is the smart guy behind all the Spartan utensils. They sent it to me to test sometime back, but I could not really find a use for it – until now. On the first day of buck season here in West Virginia I was sitting in a tree stand with my oldest daughter. She’s 20 years old but miniature in stature; she only weighs 100 pounds. We were discussing our response if a deer came in, and it was a bit crowded in the stand for us to move. That’s when it hit me. That evening when we went out, I took the Mr G Clamp with us.
This device clamped right on the tree stand’s safety rail, and since I’d had OutKast Arms install the Spartan gunsmith adapter in her rifle, the rifle just snapped right on the Davros Pro Head Gen 2 that I’d taken off of my Ascent Tripod and screwed onto the Mr G Clamp. If a deer came down the lane we suspected the deer to follow, the unit would provide her support for the shot. Now my daughter is not without hunting experience. Earlier this year in Africa she went three for three on a gemsbok, wildebeest, and a zebra, and all were between 200 and 300 yards. But, as the good advice goes, “If you can get closer, get closer, if you can get steadier, get steadier.”
There’s a story about our hunt, I’m just not ready to tell it yet.
However, just as important as a potential shooting support, the Mr G Clamp kept the rifle out of our way while we were on stand, and up and ready for immediate access no matter which way a deer might have come from. I was so enthralled with this gizmo that I started taking it with me when I was stand hunting. Not to necessarily shoot from, but to keep my rifle handy and ready for quick access. Here in the West Virginia hills, often times the action is close and fast.
If you’re a user of other Spartan shooting supports, like to hunt from a stand with a support rail, or are frequently taking youngsters hunting, I’d suggest you give this gizmo a look. It just goes to show you that even though you might at first think a thing of no value to you, you learn as you go.

Spartan’s newest tool is their Springbok bipod, and we’ll be using it during the Safari Prep Class at Gunsite Academy this February. (To learn more about this class, click HERE.) This is a much more affordable shooting support that’s quite versatile because of its flexible head. I’ve been experimenting with it on the range but have yet to take it hunting. That will change this March during my annual month in Africa.
