The 1st of August will mark the two-year anniversary of the EmptyCases Substack. Since then, I’ve published 129 gun related articles covering recreational shooting, firearms training, self-defense, hunting, ballistics, and other related topics. Below are links to three of the top articles during the last 23 months, and all three are now accessible for free.
Typically, after free posts have been live for a month they are automatically paywalled. I’ve removed these paywalls for the month of July to give old and new free subscribers access to all original free articles.
Also, to express my appreciation to all EmptyCases subscribers, for the month of July you can sign up for the first time or extend your annual subscription and get a 20% discount. This applies to new or current — Annual and Premium — subscribers. To take advantage of this discount, just click the link below.
Also, I have managed to locate a mint copy of the first book I ever published back in 2006, Rifle Bullets for the Hunter. This book was a collaborative effort between John Barsness, Craig Boddington, John Haviland, Ron Spomer, Bryce Towsley, and me, and Dave Campbell, my first editor at the National Rifle Association, severed as the editor. It is a definitive look at the bullets rifle hunters use, and if you can find a copy, it typically sales for $150 or more.
I’m going to give this copy away to a paid subscriber. All you need to do to qualify for a chance to win the book is to comment on this post and tell me which of the 129 articles published over the last 23 months was your favorite. Just drop a link to the article in the comment. A winner will be randomly chosen before the 1st of August 2025, and they will be notified by e-mail.
Speaking of books, my latest book, Rifle Cartridges for the Hunter, is in the editing process and is on schedule for release in late September or early October. If you’re a Premium Subscriber — at the time of publication — you’ll receive a free autographed copy. A limited number of autographed copies will be made available for sale here as well. After these are gone the book will only be available through Amazon. As soon as printing has commenced I’ll provide a pre-order link.
My favorite one was the email only piece on kudu hunting. But this is one is also a favorite
